There’s something about Breckenridge that just feels different.
The kind of place that makes you breathe deeper. Smile slower. Hold your person’s hand a little tighter.
If you’re dreaming up a destination wedding that’s equal parts breathtaking and grounded – where your guests can turn the trip into a vacation and your wedding day feels like it’s wrapped in meaning – this little mountain town in Colorado might be exactly what you’re looking for.
I recently photographed a summer wedding at TenMile Station that was the perfect example of why Breckenridge works so well for destination weddings. It was a full weekend of celebration, not just a single-day blur. Their closest people flew in, booked cabins and condos, went on hikes, hung out downtown, and made the most of it. It wasn’t rushed or performative. It was intentional.
Here’s what makes Breckenridge the dream destination wedding spot – and what you should know before you start planning.
No need for extravagant installs or over-the-top décor when your ceremony has a backdrop like TenMile Station. Sitting at nearly 10,000 feet, it overlooks sweeping mountain ranges, forests, and sky that just glows at golden hour.
Whether you’re into full-on luxury or something laid-back and cozy, Breck brings the kind of natural beauty you literally can’t fake.
When you invite guests to a Breckenridge wedding, you’re not just inviting them to an event, you’re inviting them into an experience.
The couple I photographed filled their weekend with welcome drinks, group dinners, a pickleball tournament and plenty of downtime. Their people made memories beyond the wedding day.
There’s hiking, whitewater rafting, shopping, breweries, and the cutest downtown that makes you feel like a local. It’s the kind of place guests actually want to go to and won’t forget.
This venue deserves more credit than it gets.
TenMile Station feels secluded without being hard to get to (the drive is so much easier than you’d think). It’s rustic in the elevated way (not the burlap-and-mason-jars way), and has both indoor and outdoor options – which means you get the best of both worlds.
It’s also ideal for weddings under 100 guests. You’re not trying to fill a ballroom or stretch a budget – everything stays close, intimate, and connected.
Let’s keep it real – Colorado mountain weather is moody.
Summertime brings sunshine and wildflowers, but it can also bring surprise rain or quick shifts in temp. The key is to plan a timeline that isn’t too tight, leave room for flexibility, and have someone (like your planner and photographer) who knows how to roll with it.
Hint: the light after a passing storm? Unmatched.
Also, Ashley with Thoughtfully Curated Events is the most incredible planner.
It’s hard to explain unless you’ve been there, but there’s a soulfulness to Breckenridge weddings.
They’re not about perfection, they’re about presence.
It’s not about checking boxes, it’s about creating real, un-rushed moments with your people.
That’s the part I love most about photographing destination weddings in Breckenridge: the emotion is deeper. The laughter is louder. The photos feel like something.
Whether you’re already sold on the mountain town vibe or just starting to explore, planning a destination wedding in Breckenridge means building a weekend that reflects who you are – not what trends say you should do.
If you’re dreaming up your own day in the mountains, I’d love to help you make it feel effortless, honest, and unforgettable.
